In the vibrant community of Houston in 1993, a remarkable group of nine women: Princess Veronica Obomese, Ms. Yinka Ekoh, Mrs. Mercy Okokhere, Mrs. Sarah Irabor, Mrs. Esther Iredia, Mrs. Gloria Onofua, Mrs. Georgina Obiyan, and the late Mrs. Helen Ijewere and Mrs. Josephine Anetor came together to deliberate on issues concerning Esan Women in Houston. To this end, the Esan Women Association of Houston Inc. (Formally integral part of the United Esan Organization Inc) was formally created.  

Mission

  • Unify every Esan Woman in Houston North America. 

  • Promote, protect and advance Esan culture in our Children. 

  • Facilitate progress and development in Houston Community and Esan land.

  • Promote and cultivate civic responsibility among Esan indigenes.

  • Promote harmony and peaceful co-existence with other ethnic groups in Houston, Edo State, Nigeria and all over the world.

  • Set target goals and objectives, develop the goals and implement them as quickly as expeditiously as possible.

  • Utilize all avenues and opportunities not in contravention with laws to foster the goals and objectives outlined herein.

  • Organize a focus group that would continue to help implement defined goals and objectives in Houston and Esan land.

  • Build liaison with other Esan indigenes across the world.

  • Strive to maintain close relationships, support one another, sustain and promote Esan culture and historical values as well as our language, and rich heritage.

BECOME A PROUD ESAN

Our goal is foster unity and strengthen relationships within the Esan community, particularly among women, wives, sisters and daughters. This is a noble goal, as maintaining cultural ties and supporting one another across generations is vital for preserving heritage, traditions, and a sense of belonging in the diaspora.

Esan Women Association is a community of Esan people originating from Nigeria. We are united under one common identity, based on our shared ethnicity, to strengthen the bonds of unity among Esan people in Houston, Texas.
